On November 4, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that the six LMC countries have not only a shared river but also a shared future. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the first LMC Leaders’ Meeting. Over the past decade, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the six countries, the LMC has moved from a phase of building, in which the framework was set up and areas of cooperation expanded, to a phase of deep engagement, in which mechanisms are strengthened and practical results are emphasized, and has become a stellar example of regional cooperation brimming with vitality and potential.

Wang Yi said that more in-depth and substantive progress has been made in building bilateral communities with a shared future between China and the five Mekong countries, and the foundation of the Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future has become more solid. Trade between China and the five Mekong countries surpassed US$500 billion, an increase of 150 percent over a decade ago, accounting for about half of the trade volume between China and ASEAN. The LMC Economic Development Belt has been effectively implemented, the physical connectivity of infrastructure has been advanced, the institutional connectivity of rules and standards has been steadily expanded, and the development of the Lancang‑Mekong Innovation Corridor has achieved remarkable results. The Safe Lancang‑Mekong Operation has been implemented efficiently, cracking down hard on cross‑border online gambling and telecom fraud. The LMC Special Fund has provided support for over 1,000 development projects in various countries, and the Lancang‑Mekong Visa has facilitated people-to-people exchanges among the six countries.

Wang Yi pointed out that ten years of hard work have brought ten years of harvest. The LMC has grown from strength to strength thanks to the six countries’ commitment to the founding aspiration of good neighborliness, friendship and a shared future; to focusing on development and practical cooperation; to the vision of benefiting the people and being open and inclusive; and to the courage of pursuing innovation and breaking new ground. In the face of multiple challenges in the region and the world, the Lancang-Mekong family should think and act as one and jointly take the LMC to a new level. Wang Yi called on the Lancang-Mekong family to usher in a new golden decade of the LMC together, stride toward a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home, and contribute LMC’s efforts to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
